From Berlin to Erfurt
In April, the State Secretary for the Interior, Udo Götz, handed over 22 motorcycles of the type R BMW 1250 RT-P to the police in Thuringia.
"With a mileage of over 50,000 km and in some cases even over 100,000 km and an age of up to 15 years, a replacement of the previous 19 motorcycles was urgently needed," Udo Götze emphasized. The State Secretary of the Interior made it clear that this technical update was necessary in order to provide the officers of the motorcycle squad with safe and up-to-date vehicles.
BMW Motorrad was awarded the contract in the tender and once again prevailed over other competitors.
"It was the only company capable of making the typical police attachments and installations, such as special signaling and radio systems with wireless connection to the helmet. In addition, the technical equipment of the motorcycles is state-of-the-art - lean angle DSC and cornering ABS, active cruise control, several riding modes, hill start control, high-resolution multifunction display and navigation system support the riders* in the field (cf. Ministry of the Interior and Local Government, 2022)."
The motorcycles will be used at prestigious events, such as escorting state guests, as well as in everyday police work, mainly in the control of two-wheeled drivers (Ministerium für Inneres und Kommunales, 2022).
